About Me

I grew up a farm kid in rural Alberta. I was never the "skinny" kid growing up but was active on the farm and in sports at school. Even then I struggled with weight. As a young adult moving to the big city opened up a world of fast food that was more accessible to me than ever before.

Newly in love with my now husband I gained 40 pounds in 2 years! With the weight gain came back pain and negative self-esteem issues. I had tried to lose weight using many diets like the cabbage soup diet, Atkins, South Beach and many others. Many of them worked initially but I always found myself falling back in to my old habits. It was when I tipped the scale at 200 pounds that I decided to take control of my health and fitness with permanent life style changes.

I had recently quit smoking and started attending a group fitness class on my lunch break, from there it was a snow ball effect. I was eating healthier and exercising more. I felt better and the weight started to come off. I lost 30 pounds! I was looking and feeling good but it was that last 10 that just wouldn't come off. I struggled with this for a while. I really had to work hard at it but with determination and a lot of food journaling I did it!

Soon after that I got married and had our first son. On the day I gave birth I was lighter than I was at my heaviest!!! I was able to bounce back very quickly and was more determined than ever to keep it off.

Over the next couple years I bounced around within that 10 pound range until a few friends and I decided to start our own biggest loser group. We met every week for a weigh in and workout. Through the support of my friends I was able to lose another 13 pounds! That was almost 8 years ago. Since then I have had our second son and have been able to keep the weight off and lose another 10!

Every day it takes work to keep on track. I do fall off the wagon every now and then but the difference now is that I have the tools to get back on. This Journey has changed my life for the better and I am so grateful for it.

How I Started

I got my start in the health and fitness industry by accident really.  I was on maternity leave with my second son and started to take a group fitness class with some friends. I’ll be honest, this was as much of a social outing for me as it was a workout! One day I decided to ask the instructor what was required to do her job; she explained it to me. At the time it was too much for me to even think of doing with a preschooler and a new born at home.  Later in the year that instructor called me at home to let me know that there would be a job opening soon.  She thought I would make a good fit! I was flattered to say the least. I took it as a sign that I needed to explore this. I took the training and I became a group fitness instructor certified in portable equipment. I loved it from day one! I went on to acquire my designation in Older Adult fitness as well. Through my work as a group fitness instructor many people would ask me for advice on personal training. This was out of my scope of practice at the time and personal training was something that I never thought I would like. The love of group fitness for me came from participating in the work out with my class, not from watching someone else work out.  I initially took the personal training certification to gain more knowledge and to be able to say I was a trainer (something most people assumed I was already). What I found out was that training clients was as rewarding as teaching group classes if not more! Personal training allows me to help a client through all aspects of their journey leading up to their goal. I furthered my education to Nutrition and Weight loss specialist and step aerobics instructor as well.

I teach group fitness classes almost every day of the week and own and operate a fitness studio in my home. I will never stop learning through education and my work with clients. I have a passion for health and fitness and a love for helping people achieve their goals. I strive to be a motivator, mentor and support for those who want to make positive life style changes.
